biography

J.C. Leonard was born in Swindon to Ann and Macdonald Coventry on October 17th 1980.

His musical adventure started almost as soon as he could walk, his father was a musician and singer who was well known locally through his various ventures with many musical companies, SALOS, The Gilbert and Sullivan Society and Swindon Opera to name a few.

When John was 7 years old he was persuaded to start Piano lessons, and for a short time he got on vary well, but lacked much of the patience needed to be successful. After about 2 years he had given up, much to the dissapointment of his parents.

As he got older J.C. started to get into music again and finally on the eve of his 12th Birthday he was given his first guitar. Lessons followed shortly after that and this time John was dedicated to it, but the music scene was rapidly changing when grunge hit the airwaves. This change bought an end to his Guitar lessons as he felt he wasn`t learning all that he wanted, he continued to teach himself for a couple of years until he felt he had learnt all he needed to know. He wrote his first song "Dark Is Divine" in early 1994 which was followed by several other songs. J.C continued writing and by the end of 1995 had written more than 100 songs, quite an achievement for a young 14 year old.

This year would also bring considerable change to J.Cs life. He was approached in mid 1995 by a friend who suggested he auditioned for a musical production of "Grease" which was to be performed the following Summer, he jumped at the oportunity and to his suprise ended up with the lead role.

Roles in various other shows built up over the next few years and by February 2002 he had been involved in almost 30 productions of one sort or the other. In March of that year he took himself into a studio for the first time and recorded a CD which was eventually called "I Just Don`t Understand". J.C sadly lost his father in March 2003 but went to a school in Los Angeles called the "Musicians Institute". Whilst in the states he made a welcome return to acting in "The Buck Stops Here" a political satire pointing a finger at George W. Bush and spent more time in the studio recording some new songs.

J.C. Leonard is currently living back in the UK and has been performing locally on the music scene. He also teaches Guitar and Vocals to a number of students both young and old in the evenings. For more info check out the contact page.
